Emily in So Flo | Episode 3 | Questions & Answers from Viewers About So Flo Same Day

In this weeks episode Emily goes over questions and answers from potential patients and audience members of the surgery center.

Question 1: “How is your surgery center kept clean to keep out infection?” & “Are surgery centers as safe as hospitals?”

One common thing people say is, if you want to get sick, go to a hospital. That’s where all of the sick people are, they are there to get better. Why would you not want to come to an ASC where we are only treating healthy people and doing elective surgeries. Therefore, there is much less chance for infection at an ambulatory surgery center vs. a hospital. Also, ASCs have so many other policies and procedures in place to prevent infection and track infections if there were any after the fact.

Question 2: “What is the price difference between surgery in a hospital vs. surgery at an ambulatory surgery center ?”

Number one, your insurance company will approve certain procedures to be done at an outpatient facility (ambulatory surgery center) that they would prefer to have done at an ASC because the charges are going to be significantly less price difference. One reason why the charges are going to less for surgery done in a hospital vs an ASC, are because they are going to be done globally. So, for example, if we use 14 sponges, we will not be charging you for each one of those individually. At a hospital, they will charge for each item individually for all supplies. In an ASC its a global fee, meaning one fee for a facility. Therefore, your fee price difference between surgery in a hospital vs. surgery at an ambulatory surgery center will be much less.
